NEEDLERS FOUNDATION MARKS 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE & DONATIONS TO CHILDREN’S CHARITIES

Needlers Honors Burlington Coat Factory’s, Thomas Kingsbury, President & CEO, at Annual “Retailer of the Year” Gala

New York, NY, July 2, 2012 – The Needlers Foundation, a leading not-for-profit philanthropic organization headquartered in NYC’s Fashion Center known for supporting children’s causes, is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a prominent children’s association. Focused on making a positive impact to our community, Needlers was founded in the garment district by local industry executives in 1962 to help sick underprivileged children. Today, it is the only remaining garment district not-for-profit known for supporting children’s causes and raising awareness for pediatric neurosurgery.

This October, Needler’s will name Thomas Kingsbury, President and CEO of Burlington Coat Factory, “Retailer of the Year” and will honor him at the “Retailer of the Year” gala, which honors individuals/retailers that have demonstrated a commitment to community. This annual gala will be held at The Waldorf Astoria on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in New York City.

Scott Fishman, President of the Needlers Foundation, commented, “As we reflect on our rich 50 year history, we are most proud of the life-changing work we are doing for children in need and for the over $25 million in charitable contributions to children’s causes. Needlers’ growth over the past few decades has benefited important charities and medical facilities and allowed us to collaborate with leading pediatric medical experts to help children with complex illnesses. Our annual gala has not only developed into a respected social event but its left a lasting mark on honoring retail executives known for their commitment to the community,” he added.

“On behalf of the entire Needlers’ management team, I would like to express our gratitude to our followers and strong supporters, which first began within the garment district and has grown to include supporters from other industries such as the medical, legal and financial services sectors. Lastly, I would like to recognize an executive that represents the true essence of our mission, which is this year’s “Retailer of the Year,” Tom Kingsbury of Burlington Coat Factory. Tom has been a visionary on the importance of supporting communities in need and will be honored for his philanthropic work, dedication and commitment to making social responsibility a key hallmark within his organization,” commented Mr. Fishman.

“I want to congratulate the Needlers Foundation on their 50th Anniversary and I applaud their exceptional commitment to supporting children’s causes across the country,” stated Thomas Kingsbury. “On behalf of Burlington Coat Factory’s 27,000 associates, I am humbled, and honored to accept this recognition.”

Needlers Foundation has exclusively benefited children’s charities awarding millions of dollars to hospitals and children’s foundations across the country by partnerships with many worthy organizations. One of Needlers’ key partners, The Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai Health Systems,  has been the recipient of $2.5 million in donations from the Needlers, including a $1 million gift that established the “Needlers Pediatric Intensive Care Unit” at Mount Sinai West.

Dr. Alejandro Berenstein, Director of the Hyman-Newman INN, commented, “The Needlers are a very special group of people. They have dedicated themselves to helping children from all ethnic and social backgrounds, with very difficult medical problems that can only be treated in very specialized centers. They do this not only by supporting those in need, but also by helping us create a friendly, less threatening environment, where we address the emotional needs of the children and their families.”

“The Needlers have been great supporters of the INN since it was first established in 1996. They have helped us to provide essential medical treatment and supportive services to children from around the world. We are very proud of and honored by our longstanding relationship with them, and we value their friendship and generosity,” added, Dr. Berenstein.

All funds raised at this year’s Retailer of the Year gala will benefit the Needlers Foundation’s charity organizations, as well as Burlington’s designated children’s charities – the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night campaign, the Juvenile Diabetes Association, the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania Foundation.

Italian Night 2015 at Pasquale Rigoletto

Saturday, April 25th, 2015

Started in 2005 Italian night was developed as an intimate evening for some of our most dedicated Needlers. Always thrown at one of New York’s premier Italian restaurants it is an evening that has quickly developed into a highlight of our events calendar growing from a small intimate party into a larger fundraising event.
