Find out how you can help
The Needlers Foundation is a not-for-profit philanthropic organization, which contributes exclusively to children’s charities. We were founded approximately 50 years ago by a group of garment center executives to benefit children in need. The Needlers primary goal is raising funds and bringing awareness to benefit pediatric neurosurgery and to help sick and underprivileged children. Today, our membership includes those in allied industries as well as lawyers, CPAs, bankers, doctors and health care professionals who have helped raise millions of dollars for children’s charities.
For over 20 years, The Needlers have been major supporters of pediatric neurology and neurosurgery. Their efforts have focused on the work of Alejandro Berenstein, MD, Clinical Professor of Radiology, Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he is also the Director of the Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Mount Sinai Health System (The INN) and Director of Pediatric Endovascular Neurosurgery. Since Dr. Berenstein founded The INN in 1996, it has attracted patients and families from across the country and around the world due to its compassionate care and technologically sophisticated procedures. Dr. Berenstein developed and pioneered the field of interventional radiology, specifically interventional neuroradiology, or “surgical neuroradiology.” His achievements are recognized throughout specialties such as neurosurgery, radiology, neurology, ENT and head and neck Surgery, as well as pediatrics and interventional Cardiology.
The work of Dr. Berenstein has helped hundreds of children from around the world survive and thrive after being born with painful, debilitating vascular malformations.
Without funding from The Needlers and other philanthropic partners, many of these children would not be able to access these life-changing treatments.
The Needlers Foundation has done some extensive work with Mount Sinai specifically raising millions of dollars to help build the “Needlers Pediatric Intensive Care Unit” at Mount Sinai West. In addition The Needlers Foundation has been a strong supporter of the child life programs at both Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Beth Israel. These programs cover non-medical care for the children such as child life specialists, staffing, toys, entertainment and supplies and are paid for exclusively through donations and grants.
Additional Needlers donations have helped to support the funding of the Pediatric Wing at NYU Medical Center in New York, The Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, and The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. The Needlers Foundation also supports camps for underprivileged children.
